Purpose:This study was conceived to provide elderly patients more specialized and effective nursing systems of good quality.
Method:Subjects of this study were 103 nurses working at three randomly sampled hospitals affiliated to a university and 100 elderly patients hospitalized in these medical hospitals. Data were collected through a structuralized questionnaire research and direct interviewing elder from Nov. 20, 2003 to Jan. 30, 2004. The questionnaires on 5-point Likert Scale in to having 28 questions about four areas (physical, psychosocial, educational, therapeutic areas) of elderly care for assessing elderly care were created by modifying scaled employed in previous studies.
Result:Clinical nurses’ perception of elderly care marked 4.36 points in average, and their performance marked 3.86 points, thus the degree of perception was higher than that of performance (t=11.64, p=0.000). Elderly patients expectation toward elderly care marked 3.87 points in average, and their satisfaction marked 3.35 points in average, thus the degree of expectation was higher than that of satisfaction (t=9.19, p=0.000).
Conclusion:In order to perform the whole services to heighten patients’ satisfaction with elderly care, knowledge to elderly nursing need must be develope
